Poverty and Social Exclusion in Britain

The Second Peter Townsend Memorial conference was held recently. At this conference a new website was promoted which will be the central hub for the Poverty and Social Exclusion in the United Kingdom: the 2011 survey. As I am sure you have discovered from your reading the previous study informed the book Poverty and Social Exclusion in Britain: the millennium survey.

The website should prove to be a useful tool for exploring poverty and social exclusion in the UK as this important research project develops over this next year. It is something that you may find useful over the rest of your course and beyond.

So please take time to have a look at the website and check back on a regular basis for updates. You may also wish to complete the necessities survey on the website and help the research team as they test the list of necessities to include in their measure of poverty.

You can find the website here: http://www.poverty.ac.uk/
